16) Providing Facilities

8th Mar, 2021 | Information

My letter to Alan Blunsdon 13/12/18 which elicited the Reg. 28 report.
“Having battled to keep and rebuild Buckland Hospital in Dover, wards and clinics have now been closed leaving unused facilities. For example : The award winning  maternity birthing unit/ labour ward, closed leaving this area with ; a Friday ante natal consultant clinic; and daily midwifery for low risk concerns by appointment only, referred to William Harvey Ashford after 4.45pm.
Underused medical buildings such as these can be put to good use as services to support local Maternity /Perinatal services, facilities and to drive improvements and prevent deterioration in perinatal mental health conditions. NICE guidelines 2.1 page 45 emphasises the importance of prevention of psychosis, and this a necessary and ideal opportunity to provide the prophylactic respite to achieve this.”
WHY is Buckland Hospital being wound down to a wasted space and unused capability. Is this set for closure or sale?
Current medical facilities: Children’s Assessment Unit, Dementia Services, Minor Injuries and G.P.Hub, Phlebotomy, Basic X-rays, and some outpatient clinics. Clinical capability is purposefully limited therefore processing is very quick, the hospital is very quiet but has to refer cases on for treatments.
