53) HOMESTART THE CHARITY : EARLY ASSISTANCE: Our campaign is asking for the Government to reinstate Homestart as a mandatory service that is adequately funded.

2nd Dec, 2021 | Information

This is an invaluable service to give the early assistance to struggling mothers which effectively helps to prevent the escalation of maternal ill mental health and suicide.

THEY ARE VERY BADLY UNDERFUNDED, TIME AND RESOURCES WASTED ON SEARCHING AND APPLYING FOR SUSTAINABLE FUNDING. THEY OFFER:

Domestic assistance, 2 Family Groups, Provide emotional and practical support for: Parents with mental health issues, children with behavioral and medical difficulties and disabilities, and: Childcare for appointments and transport to help in access to them, which are a major factors in preventing parents from accessing the help they need. WE HAVE THE EVIDENCE TO SHOW THIS AND THE PARENTAL NEED FOR EARLY ASSISTANCE PARTICULARLY DOMESTICHELP , WHICH ISN’T OFFERED.

Availability is very limited due to the government withdrawing funds forcing Homestart to become a charity which is now struggling itself to adequately support those in greatest need and prevent escalation of ill mental health. For example:

NEEDS GOVERNMENT FUNDING BECAUSE:
I.E.2 HOURS EMOTIONAL ASSISTANCE IS MAXIMUM
GROWING VOLUNTEER SHORTAGE
THERE ARE JUST 5 CENTRES IN EAST KENT WITH A RISING POPULATION OF 540,372 ( in 2020)

This has again perpetuated the postcode lottery, the lack of the right help for those with the most dire need, and immense strain on those doing their level best to meet this demand, particularly when relying on volunteers to provide such an essential service. AND this is in a highly developed westernised country.

WHEN ARE THE POWERS THAT BE GOING TO LISTEN TO OUR CAMPAIGN?
