The number of mums in east Kent having their babies outside the district almost quadrupled after a damning report into maternity services, with many travelling miles away from home to give birth, KentOnline can reveal.

Figures obtained via a freedom of information request show that the number of mothers whose address is registered within the catchment for William Harvey Hospital (WHH) in Ashford and QEQM in Margate, but who did not give birth at either maternity ward, spiked following a baby death scandal and has stayed at a similar level.
